Ricky Valance - Music Artist Band Bio

Born David Spencer, c.1939, Ynytsdou, Wales. After singing in local clubs for a couple of years, Valance was discovered by an A&R representative from EMI Records and placed in the hands of producer Norrie Paramor. At the first recording session, Valance was given the chance of covering Ray Peterson's US hit, "Tell Laura I Love Her". A wonderfully enunciated reading was rewarded with a number 1 hit in September 1960, thanks to airplay on Radio Luxembourg, but none of Valance's follow-ups, including "Movin' Away", "Jimmy's Girl", "Bobby" and "Try To Forget Her", created any interest, and even with a move to Decca Records the dismal "Six Boys" flopped. He continues playing clubs and the revival circuit.
