Biography

Born 30 September 1961, Garland, Texas, USA. Crystal's father, Jerry Wayne Bernard, was a gospel singer who involved his young daughters in stage performances. In their teens, Crystal and her elder sister, Robyn, were performing with him as the Bernard Trio and they recorded several gospel albums together. When Robyn was 16 and Crystal 14, Bobbie Gentry invited them to be part of her stage show in Las Vegas. Crystal went on to study drama at Baylor University in Houston, before moving to Los Angeles to establish her acting career. She was featured in a Pepsi commercial and made her movie debut in 1982 in Young Doctors In Love. She appeared as K.C. Cunningham in the 1982/3 season of the television series Happy Days, and two years later landed the role of Amy Tompkins in It's A Living. From 1990-98, she became a national figure as the frustrated and glamorous cellist, Helen Chappel Hackett, in the NBC soap opera, Wings. In 1996 she and Peter Cetera had a US Top 10 hit with "(I Wanna Take) Forever Tonight", released on the independent River North label. The same year she recorded the country album, The Girl Next Door, for the same label, and enjoyed two minor hit singles, "Have We Forgotten What Love Is?" and "State Of Mind". She recorded a duet with Jim Messina, "Watching The River Run", and sang a cover version of "Photographs And Memories" on the 1997 various artists album, Jim Croce: A Nashville Tribute. Her sophomore release, Don't Touch Me There, includes a duet with her father on the closing "If You Need A Touch". In the same year, she produced and sung on her father's album, My Friend. Bernard has a good voice and is also a fine writer, with her songs recorded by artists such as Paula Abdul and Lisa Stansfield.
