Bajrang Dal

Bajrang Dal part of the RSS family is the youth wing of VHP . It was started in 1984 in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Gradually it spread throughout India. The main ideology of the organisation is Hindutva. It has 13 lakh members but only 8.5 lakh actual workers.

The organisation claims to be involved in various welfare measures. However critics claim that the organisation is responsible for fuelling hatred against the indian minorities namely Muslims. In many instance the organisation was involved in training its members to use weapons such as swords, trishul and country made pistols. It has been suspected of involvement in the Gujarat riots in which nearly 1000-2000 people are believed to be dead.

Bajrang Dal is known according to various reports fron Indian newspapers to promote violence in their cadre and also organises camps to promote this idea. After one of the camps in June, 2000 Prakash Sharma national Convenor of Bajrang Dal said, "We are training them in handling firearms since 1996. Twenty five such camps were being organised in 25 states to inculcate chivalry among the youth." Asserting this violent nature one activist said, "if you don't do tod-phod, no one notices. But when people read that we have beaten up padres, every body sits up and takes notice." (The Times of India, 2 July, 2000). This explains the violent campaign in which they are engaged in to control the activities of the Christians and Muslims and other minorities in India

According to the Indian Express 29 September, 2003 in the village of AKLERA RAJASTHAN armed Bajrang Dal activists went on the rampage, driving out about 25 Muslim families from their homes, ransacking their houses and setting them on fire.

Mishroli is at the epicentre of communal violence that has seen around 70 Muslim families of seven villages in Aklera leave their homes and migrate to neighbouring districts and Madhya Pradesh.

Bajrang Dal Suraksha Prabhari for Kota, Bharat Bhushan Sharma, warns: ''We will create these Hindu villages which will run in accordance with our traditions and there will be full overall development here. They will surround Muslim-dominated pockets and if the Muslims create any public nuisance, they will have to pay the price. If they want to co-exist, they will have to live by our rules.''
