Claudia Marcella
Octavia and consul Gaius Claudius Marcellus had 2 daughters of the name, who were nieces to the Roman Emperor Caesar Augustus.
Claudia Marcella Major (born 44bc): She was the elder sister to Marcus Claudius Marcellus, Augustus' first heir. Marcella first married Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa in a political alliance with her uncle in 28bc. In 27bc, their daughter Vipsania Marcella was born in Rome. She later married the Roman General Publius Quinctilius Varus.
In 21bc, Agrippa divorced her to Julia Caesaris. Augustus' daughter was married to Marcellus and died 2 years earlier. Marcella married Iullus Antonius (45bc-2ad), son of Fulvia and Mark Antony. Antonius was a poet, praetor in 13bc,consul in 10bc and Asian Proconsul in 7bc. In 2ad, he committed suicide on the day of his execution. Augustus charged him with adultery with Julia.
Their son Lucius Antonius was born in 20/19bc. His great-uncle dimissed him into exile where he could study as a cloak. Lucius died in 25ad, had a honourable funeral and was laid in the tomb of the Octavii.
The consul of 14ad Sextus Appuleius, became husband number 3. He was the first to swear allegiance to Tiberius. In 17ad, their daughter Appuleia Varilla was charged with adultery and speaking insultingly about the imperial family. Although released from the charge, her lover Manlius was banned from Italy and Africa.
Claudia Marcella Minor (born 43bc): Sister of the above. Her first husband was the consul Aemilius Lepidus Paullus. Their daughter Claudia Pulchra was born in 14bc and became the second wife to Publius Quinctilius Varus.
Pallus died in 13bc. Later she married the senator and consul Marcus Valerius Messalla Messallinus. Their son Marcus Valerius Messalla Barbatus would became the father of the Empress Valeria Messalina.
