Roberto Vigoreaux

Roberto Vigoreaux (born approx. 1959) is a Puerto Rican senator who is also famous for his work in the entertainment world. Vigoreaux is the son of Luis Vigoreaux, and brother of Luisito Vigoreaux. He also has two half sisters: Vanessa and Glendalys Vigoreaux.

Vigoreaux and his brother had to endure tragedy at a young age: After their father divorced their mother and married Lydia Echevarria, their mom died of a long suffered disease.

In 1983, tragedy struck again when their father was found dead inside the trunk of his car. Since Luis Vigoreaux had been dating aspiring model Nydia Castillo for some time before dying, Lydia Echevarria became the main intellectual suspect of the crime and later convicted.

Roberto and Luisito Vigoreaux began to host a television show in Puerto Rico's WAPA-TV that was named Parejo, Doble y Triple (Square, Double and Triple) in 1984. This show brought both of them large fame across Puerto Rico. It shall be pointed out that many Puerto Rican families knew of Luisito and Roberto before the show because the affairs of Luis Vigoreaux's family were very well covered by the media and magazines. However, they really were not household names until Parejo, Doble y Triple debuted. Subsequently, Roberto and his brother gained large fame all across the island.

Soon after, Roberto started hosting, once again alongside brother Luisito, the popular Saturday night game show Sabado en Grande, where Roberto lasted for a few years as co-host.

In 1993, Roberto Vigoreaux retired from the show business and began pursuing a career as a politician. During the middle 1990s, then Governor Pedro Rosselló offered to indult Echevarria based on her failing health. The Vigoreaux brothers opposed, but Rossello still indulted her. There have also been rumors that the Vigoreaux brothers and their half-sisters have not enjoyed a good relationship, but they have denied these facts, even making public their pictures taken together during gatherings.

Roberto Vigoreaux was elected in 2000 as a senator, after running for that position as a PPD candidate. He has also announced his interest in running for mayor of the city of San Juan during the upcoming elections of 2004.

As senator, Vigoreaux has proposed a large list of laws covering a vast variety of issues.
