iRiver
(full name iRiver Limited), daughter company to ReignCom,
is a consumer electronics developer founded in 1999
and is located in Seoul, Korea. It is most renowned
for producing unique portable digital audio players
(aka "MP3 players") and video players with
more features than others on the market. Common features
on iRiver products are driverless operation, FM tuner
and recording capabilities. iRiver's first released
model was the iMP-100, a portable CD player capable
of decoding MP3 data files on CDs. The current product
range of iHP-100 (now named H100) Players (100, 120
and 140) are capable of playing MP3, WMA, ASF, Ogg Vorbis,
and WAV audio files and variable bitrates of these types
(eg. anything in between the usual 64, 128, 256, 320).
Text files are also supported on the 100 series. The
H300 (320 and 340) series are able to play DivX, WMV,
MPEG4 and AVI video files and are capable of displaying
JPEG and BMP image files. Audio enthusiasts choose iRiver
products over others (namely, iPods) due to their superior
sound quality; iRiver is renowned for its very high
quality audio, even with the stock Sennheiser headphones.
